What is required for a US citizen to enter Brazil?

Country Latin America Updated June 2026

For tourism in 2026, US citizens need: a passport valid for at least six months beyond entry date with at least two blank pages; a Brazil e-Visa (reinstated 10 April 2025, applied for online before travel, around $80, valid 10 years); proof of onward or return travel; and proof of sufficient funds for the stay (the informal benchmark is roughly $200 per day, though enforcement varies). Yellow fever vaccination is recommended (and required for some destinations within Brazil) but not federally mandated for entry. Border officials may ask for a hotel reservation or address of stay. For stays longer than 90 days, or for any work or residency, the requirements escalate: separate visa categories apply (work, retirement via VIPER pensioner visa, investor, student), all applied for at a Brazilian consulate in the US.
