Is Prague cheaper than the USA?

City Europe Updated July 2026

Prague is clearly cheaper than the USA on totals: $2,575 per person per month at the moderate tier versus the US average of $3,525, a gap of roughly $950 a month or about 27 percent. The savings concentrate in housing and food. A central one-bedroom in Prague at $1,000 to $1,450 sits well below the US mainstream metro range, and groceries, eating out, beer, and public transport are dramatically cheaper than US norms (a tram pass is around CZK 550 a month, roughly $25). Healthcare, utilities, and imported electronics narrow the gap. For someone leaving a high-cost US metro like New York ($5,775) or LA ($5,050), Prague is roughly half the monthly run rate. Versus a cheap US state like Mississippi ($3,025), the gap shrinks but Prague still wins. For the full breakdown, see our Prague cost of living page.
