How far does $50 go in Brazil?

Country Latin America Updated June 2026

$50 USD converts to roughly R$250 and covers a full day or two of moderate spending in most of Brazil. Concrete equivalents at typical Brazilian prices: three to four days of groceries for one person, or a mid-range dinner for two with drinks in Sao Paulo or Rio, or a full meal out plus a few Uber rides plus a couple of beers, or a one-night stay in a budget hotel or pousada in a smaller town. Outside Sao Paulo and Rio $50 goes considerably further: in Recife, Salvador, or smaller centres it covers nearly a week of basic groceries or four to six por-quilo lunches. Exchange rates fluctuate; the purchasing-power picture above moves less than the FX conversion. For the full breakdown, see our Brazil cost of living page.
